About the Role

The Electrical Systems Department is a team of engineers focused on the design of advanced hardware products. The selected candidate will be an embedded design engineer with a broad range of technical interests and proven engineering and leadership capabilities.

As a self-starter, you will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to tackle complex technical issues. You will lead initiatives and develop architectures for embedded systems that are integrated into a wide array of aerospace and military applications, including both manned and unmanned vehicles, missiles, radar systems, and space technologies.

Your Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key technical leader in a fast-paced environment throughout all phases of the product lifecycle, from concept development to manufacturing and post-delivery support.
  • Architect, implement, and test embedded firmware and software across various platforms, including FPGAs, microcontrollers, and mixed-signal designs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, technicians, and customers to develop solutions that meet diverse requirements.
  • Make architectural decisions based on requirements that inform hardware implementations and work closely with hardware engineers.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues that arise during manufacturing and testing of deliverable products, including troubleshooting board-level problems and identifying corrective actions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in embedded system design and testing, or 6 years with a Master's degree.
  • Understanding of trade-offs in embedded system targets (FPGA, SoC, microcontroller, RTOS, bare-metal) for optimal architecture development.
  • Proficient in programming and/or hardware description languages such as C, C++, and assembly.
  • Experience with communication protocols like UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and CAN bus.
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debugging methods.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative engineering environment with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading development teams.
  • Expertise in developing firmware/software architecture for embedded systems, including FPGAs and SoCs.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as VHDL and Verilog.
  • Experience with modern Xilinx FPGA and SoC families and design tools.
  • Knowledge of firmware testing and verification techniques.
  • Understanding of RISC microprocessor architectures and memory systems.
  • Experience with embedded operating systems and electronics design.
