Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Medical Director, the Primary Care Physician will deliver comprehensive healthcare services to patients. This role is dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of medical care while adhering to all regulatory and professional standards, as well as internal policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Deliver medical services to patients in accordance with licensure and prevailing community care standards.
  2. Assess patient needs to determine necessary referrals and prioritize based on urgency.
  3. Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic health record system as per established protocols.
  4. Engage in quarterly peer evaluations to uphold quality standards.
  5. Implement and adhere to medical protocols, policies, and procedures in alignment with AAAHC standards.
  6. Contribute to Quality Improvement initiatives, management activities, and other patient care programs.
  7. Address and resolve patient complaints, requests, and inquiries effectively.
  8. Supervise mid-level healthcare providers, including Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Resident Interns.
  9. Foster professional relationships with colleagues and patients at all levels.
  10. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and funding requirements, including OSHA, CLIA, Title 22, and insurance regulations.
  11. Flexibility in work schedule may be necessary based on organizational needs.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in community-based medical practice and healthcare delivery systems. MD or DO degree with a valid California medical license and board eligibility certification, to be obtained within one year of employment in Family Practice or Internal Medicine. Current CPR and DEA registration are required. Cultural sensitivity towards Native American values is essential. Comprehensive understanding of modern medical principles related to public health services and the operational structure of public health organizations is necessary. Familiarity with state and federal public health laws and managed care systems is preferred.

Licensure: A valid California driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Candidates must be insurable under the organization's vehicle insurance policy upon hire and throughout their tenure.

Certifications: All relevant certifications and licenses must be valid and maintained as per the educational and professional requirements of the position.

Character Traits: Candidates should demonstrate a reputation for integrity and reliability. The ability to exercise sound judgment, follow administrative directives, and pay attention to detail is crucial. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for professional interactions. Confidentiality and teamwork are paramount, along with a sensitivity to client needs.

Skills: Strong leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills are required. The ability to build effective relationships with peers within the Medical Department and the broader clinic environment is essential. Candidates must articulate ideas clearly and effectively, demonstrating balanced judgment in decision-making. A proactive approach, the ability to prioritize tasks, and adaptability in a dynamic environment are important. Experience working with diverse populations and resolving conflicts is necessary.

Physical and Personal Requirements: The role typically involves a standard clinic or office environment. Candidates should be able to sit or stand for extended periods, perform physical tasks such as reaching, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs, and utilize a computer. Reliable transportation and state-required car insurance are necessary, along with the ability to travel as needed.

Compliance: Each employee is integral to fostering a culture of compliance within the organization. Employees are expected to understand and adhere to all organizational policies and procedures. Participation in compliance training is mandatory, and employees should maintain a heightened awareness of policies relevant to their roles. Reporting of any compliance violations or concerns is expected.

Additional Requirements: Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment screening, including a tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray and a drug screening.
