About the Position

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Production Shift Supervisor to join our team. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first-line supervision to Food Service Workers, Detention Officers, and working inmates.
  • Review, determine, and prepare working schedules and priorities of duties within Division, and review time off requests and approve time in the ADP payroll system.
  • Prepare Employee Performance Appraisals on a regular basis and review with employee.
  • Direct the preparation of inmate meals ensuring quality and compliance with health and sanitation standards, and assign daily jobs to Food Service Workers, Detention Officers, and inmate workers.
  • Provide continual on-the-job training for employees and inmate workers on food handling techniques and methods, equipment operation, and safety and health standards.
  • Inspect facilities on a daily basis to ensure that safety and sanitation standards are met.
  • Oversee and ensure that food temperatures meet standards and meals are delivered on schedule.
  • Maintain and control inventory of food and supplies.
  • Monitor compliance to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
  • Assist with compiling and submission of industrial and OSHA reports on a regular basis.
  • Order and maintain new inventory at an acceptable level.
  • Review incoming orders, and oversee the loading and unloading of food products.
  • Implement, communicate, and document menu changes.
  • Track food production statistics and prepare reports for distribution to management.
  • Review and implement measures to control meal costs.
  • Supervise food preparation and production area operation to ensure quality.
  • Document incidents and prepare reports accordingly.
  • Manage the use of all donated food.
  • Perform utensil and inmate head-counts along with contraband searches for each meal.
  • Coordinate equipment repair requests and monitor repair service to ensure equipment is repaired in a timely manner.
  • Supervise equipment operation and sanitation.
  • Conduct security checks and maintain security in food production areas and kitchen facilities.
  • Perform computer data entry to complete reports and JMS diets, and send and receive emails.
  • Train employees on various heavy-duty industrial food service equipment.
  • Ensure menus, special diets, and religious meals are followed.
  • Conduct monthly and annual physical inventories.
  • Operate forklift and electric pallet jacks.
  • Perform basic First Aid on staff and inmates when required.
  • Supervise and follow procedures for the Recycle Program.
  • Supervise and monitor cleaning chemical usage, ensures chemicals are secured, and follows OSHA guidelines for chemical safety.
  • Supervise in-house inmate probation visits.
  • Transport finished products to the Warehouse.
  • Operate variety of heavy duty industrial food service equipment.
  • Conduct and/or attend staff meetings.
  • Operate a County vehicle.
  • Be present at work site to perform all tasks as scheduled and/or assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions

Work occurs in a food plant environment in a jail facility. Tasks require manual dexterity to operate heavy-duty industrial food service equipment. Position involves teamwork and daily contact with and supervision of adult inmates.

  • Compile statistics and prepare production reports.

  • Conduct facility inspections and security checks.
  • Maintain accurate accountability logs and enforce all safety standards.
Selection Procedure

The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.
