Delivers specialized Karate services to members.

Compensation:
$26.40/hour DOE

*Instructors receive compensation for class time, as well as the 15 minutes before and after each class.

Key Responsibilities:
- Designs and leads classes or programs in a specialized area. Monitors and discusses individual progress with participants.

- Cultivates positive relationships with participants and promotes relationship building among members. Provides motivational support and guidance.

- Enhances participant awareness of various healthy lifestyle factors.

- Encourages member and parent engagement and identifies potential volunteers.

- Attends staff meetings and approved training sessions as required.

- Sets up and dismantles class equipment. Reports any equipment issues.

- Ensures classes are safe and effective. Responds to and reports accidents and incidents.

- Shares fundamental knowledge of all Y Total Health/Activate America programs.

- Tracks, monitors, evaluates, and transitions assigned Total Health participants while providing motivational support and counseling.

- Accurately maintains related records. Leads ongoing YMCA Total Health classes or programs in a specialized area.

Qualifications:
- Current state-approved first aid certification.

- Current state-approved CPR certification.

- High school education or equivalent preferred.

Other relevant education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills to perform effectively in this role will be considered.

- Two or more years of experience teaching or practicing in a specialized area.

- Total Service/Total Health Training

- Ability to lead a class or provide individual service.

- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

- Ability to motivate and educate members.

- Ability to set up, move, and store equipment.

- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Proficiency in any language in addition to English may be beneficial.

Martial Arts / Karate:
- Black belt, trainer, and member of the Washington Karate Association.
