Job Opportunity

Herrera Environmental Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer to join our team as a Senior Restoration Design Engineer. This role will involve working on complex ecological projects, including river and stream habitat restoration, fish passage improvements, and floodplain management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop restoration plans for rivers, streams, and floodplains
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop multi-disciplinary projects
  • Support a variety of mitigation, restoration, flood risk reduction, and infrastructure protection projects
  • Prepare design plans, construction specifications, and construction cost estimates
  • Manage design tasks through design completion and construction

Requirements

  • 15+ years of professional experience in concept development and design of stream and river restoration and floodplain management projects
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or master's degree in civil or environmental engineering if undergraduate degree was not in engineering
  • Current professional engineer (PE) license in Washington or Oregon, or ability to readily obtain one via comity application based on licensure in another US state
  • Familiarity with Washington State (e.g., SEPA, HPA, Shoreline) permitting requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in civil engineering or environmental science with an emphasis on aquatic ecosystems restoration, hydraulics, and/or geomorphology
  • Experience as a project manager of floodplain and restoration design or planning projects
  • Fish passage analysis and design experience with roadway culverts
  • Construction management and inspection experience
  • Experience with hydrologic analysis and modeling techniques
  • Hydraulic modeling experience (one- and two-dimensional)
  • Permit application experience in Western states (e.g., state and federal permits for in-water work, local agency permits for grading, erosion control, etc.)
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and ArcGIS
  • Experience with field data collection and related equipment
