Homelessness represents a significant social and public health challenge in California. Illumination Foundation (IF) is a dynamic non-profit organization committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness through specialized, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing initiatives, and programs for children and families. Currently, IF operates over 13 facilities with more than 22 micro-communities throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County, and the Inland Empire.

Position Summary:

The Housing Support Specialist is a community-oriented, high-engagement position responsible for delivering direct transitional care to a manageable caseload of clients within our service area. Candidates must be adaptable, resourceful, personable, collaborative, and possess strong critical thinking abilities. This role involves both remote and in-person interactions as needed, focusing on providing exceptional transitional care to homeless and other at-risk populations.

Compensation: The hourly wage for this role is $25.00, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and cultivate housing options for programs across the organization.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with property managers and landlords to enhance housing availability.
  • Perform housing inspections to ensure compliance with HUD Housing Habitability standards.
  • Conduct utility inspections and generate necessary reports.
  • Complete rent reasonableness assessments to align with HUD Housing Habitability requirements.
  • Verify client rent payments on a monthly basis.
  • Assist case managers and clients with housing applications, searches, and connections.
  • Exhibit ethical behavior that reflects the core values of integrity, transparency, accountability, respect, and responsibility.
  • Demonstrate openness, honesty, and accountability to colleagues, volunteers, donors, and all stakeholders.
  • Accept personal responsibility for the execution of job duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding work-related information and materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid California Driver's License and eligibility for company vehicle insurance.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer and client relations skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).
  • Knowledge of HUD Housing inspections and reporting processes.
  • Understanding of the housing rental market and property management practices.
