About the Role

Menlo Ventures is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel, Privacy and Security to lead our Privacy and Security team. The successful candidate will work closely with our marketing, security, engineering, product, data, and member support teams to develop and implement a comprehensive privacy program that meets the evolving regulatory expectations of our industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on Privacy Laws: Provide expert guidance on privacy laws and regulations, with a particular emphasis on financial privacy.
  • Develop and Implement Privacy Program: Take the lead in helping to mature our privacy program, ensuring it meets the evolving regulatory expectations of our industry.
  • Work Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement privacy impact assessments and ensure that privacy by design is embedded in all aspects of our business.
  • Advise on Product Design: Work collaboratively with product counsel to advise on privacy aspects of product design.
  • Develop and Conduct Trainings: Develop and conduct both general and role-specific privacy trainings to ensure our teams are equipped to handle privacy-related matters.
  • Stay Abreast of Regulatory Trends: Stay up-to-date on regulatory and industry trends in privacy and security laws, including new regimes and requirements that may become applicable as our business evolves.
  • Support Security Team: Support our security team, including scenario planning exercises and advising on reportability of incidents.
Requirements
  • 8+ Years of Privacy Experience: A minimum of 8 years of experience in privacy, including at least 3 years in-house, with a focus on building and implementing privacy programs.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record of leading a team and taking on new and additional responsibilities as the business evolves.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and drafting skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory expectations into actionable guidance.
  • Comfort with Senior Leadership: Comfortable advising senior business leaders, including executive-level management.
  • Preferred Certifications: CIPP, CIPM, or other privacy or security certification preferred.
