Role Overview

As the Product & Privacy Counsel, you will undertake a diverse array of responsibilities, offering legal expertise on privacy regulations and product development strategies. You will collaborate closely with the commercial legal team, who engage in intricate negotiations with clients and product-related vendors. Your partnership with our product team will be crucial in the development of innovative products and features, all while managing legal risks and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. In our compact legal department, you will report directly to the General Counsel, where your insights and contributions will have a significant impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop expertise in Persona's products by fostering strong relationships with the product team.
  • Provide legal guidance to product teams regarding both new and existing offerings.
  • Oversee privacy compliance efforts, including the management of our privacy program and evaluation of privacy laws across various jurisdictions.
  • Advise on privacy issues related to complex vendor agreements that influence the company's products.
  • Assist in revenue-generating deals by working with our commercial legal team to deliver clear and concise legal counsel on privacy matters for customer agreements.
  • Support various privacy initiatives, including data mapping, privacy by design, impact assessments, vendor data protection, privacy notices and policies, subject access requests, and incident response protocols.
  • Stay informed on relevant industry trends, consumer protection laws, and privacy regulations to ensure the provision of sound compliance advice.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 to 8 years of relevant legal experience, either in-house or at a law firm.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in at least one state bar association.
  • Familiarity with product launches and the legal and regulatory considerations of product development in the technology sector.
  • Strong understanding of state, federal, and international privacy laws and regulatory frameworks, including but not limited to CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, BIPA, GLBA, and FCRA.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining privacy policies, impact assessments, and related documentation for privacy programs.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Adept at quickly grasping new concepts and exercising sound judgment.
  • Ability to translate legal advice into actionable strategies for innovative product and business teams.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Practical business judgment, intellectual creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated base salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $180,000. Base salaries are just one aspect of the total compensation package and are influenced by factors such as experience, expertise, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, we provide competitive equity packages that recognize your significant contributions to our mission.
