Weekend Hospice Nurse

Good Shepherd Community Care, a leading hospice and palliative care organization in Greater Boston, is seeking a skilled Weekend Hospice Nurse to join its On-Call team. This rewarding role requires weekend availability and involves travel to provide care in patients' private homes and residential facilities throughout the area.
Job Summary
The Weekend Hospice Nurse is an integral part of an interdisciplinary team responsible for caring for patients at the end of life. Key responsibilities include making home and hospital visits, providing information sessions, evaluating new patients, facilitating admissions to hospice services, and coordinating care planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong triage and assessment skills to manage symptoms appropriately and provide education to patients and families about terminal disease and the end-of-life process.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:
- A current Massachusetts RN license
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field (preferred)
- At least 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of hospice or equivalent nursing experience
- Sensitivity to and knowledge of end-of-life issues
- Comfort working with socioculturally diverse patients/families
- Ability to manage pain and control symptoms
- Flexibility and multitasking abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Exceptional communication skills
- Adaptability to frequently changing patient needs
- Proficiency with electronic documentation
- Comfort using mobile technologies
