The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Inpatient Neuroscience plays a critical role in the comprehensive care of patients within the areas of Neurosurgery, Epilepsy and Inpatient Rehab. This position involves collaboration with Neurosurgeons, Epileptologists, Physiatrists and interdisciplinary teams to manage complex neurological conditions in a pediatric inpatient hospital setting.
Responsibilities:
The APP will assess, diagnose and treat patients, while providing education to patients, families and staff to ensure optimal care. The APP will work with autonomy within Ohio law under the direction of a supervising physician. The APP will identify significant health and medical risk factors, order and interpret laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies, develop a diagnosis and treatment plan, and perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification, law and Akron Children's Hospital privileges. The APP may prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through Ohio Board of Medicine and hospital policy. The APP will develop a patient education plan and collaborate with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care. The APP may serve as a clinical preceptor for PA students. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
A Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies is preferred. The APP must be licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Ohio and have current NCCPA certification. The APP must have a Supervision Agreement filed, a current certificate to practice and a certificate to prescribe (or eligible) by Ohio Board of Medicine. The APP must obtain credentialing as an active member of medical staff and appropriate medical staff privileges. Current Health Care Provider BLS training is required. Individuals hired without an MS Degree and those hired without a certificate to prescribe (or CTP eligible) must actively pursue and obtain a MS degree/certificate to prescribe. Excellent critical thinking, self-motivation and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
