Job Summary:

Cleveland Clinic Akron General is seeking a knowledgeable Clinical Nurse Specialist or APRN with a background in oncology to support patients in the hospital setting. The CNS will help support patient care, provide education to bedside nurses and residents, and ensure practice protocols and support/promote evidence-based practice and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Chemotherapy education for patients, families, and nurses (inpatient)

Facilitate new nurse oncology orientation, including ensuring completion of Cancer Basics and Fundamentals of Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Administration

Oversee chemotherapy practicum for inpatient nurses to ensure timely completion

Oversee yearly oncology competency

Review inpatient chemotherapy orders to ensure all elements are correct and review orders/processes with staff nurses

Work with staff nurses on non-oncology floors to monitor patients who have received chemotherapy

Educate non-oncology nurses on safe handling, including waste disposal

Develop and implement a standard outpatient orientation and checklist

Monitor Commission on Cancer (CoC) standard 4.2 for nursing and track CE

Assist with community outreach education

Participate on oncology-related committees

QI projects

Requirements:

APRN or PA with a background in oncology

Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist in applicable state(s)

Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s)

National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing

Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) may be required based upon work setting

Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states

Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals
