Position Summary:
Under the guidance of the Phlebotomy Coordinator, this role is responsible for managing and processing incoming laboratory specimens and requisitions for various healthcare facilities. The position ensures the accurate distribution of specimens and oversees the processing during the first shift.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates laboratory specimens and requisitions to ensure compliance with established laboratory protocols.
  • Inputs requisitions, receives specimens, and logs relevant information into the Laboratory Information System.
  • Handles tasks related to referred testing, including requisitioning, preparation for shipping, and result documentation.
  • Delivers comprehensive diagnostic laboratory procedures adhering to established standards. Demonstrates proficiency in all procedures relevant to the patient demographics served, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Engages with clients and physician offices regarding inquiries related to orders, procedures, and collections.
  • Verifies requisitions for precision.
  • Monitors communication channels during evening hours.
  • Oversees client pickup schedules managed by Lab Aide/Courier.
  • Manages the pneumatic tube system to ensure timely delivery of specimens to the appropriate sections.
  • Orders and maintains inventory and supplies for reference laboratory clients and the specimen procurement section.
  • Provides assistance to other laboratory areas as necessary.
  • Familiarizes with fire, disaster, and safety protocols relevant to the work environment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education:
  • Completion of vocational or technical school, certification, training, or apprenticeship beyond high school is required.
Experience:
  • No prior experience necessary.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • BCLS certification through AHA is required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification is preferred.
