Laboratory Specimen Coordinator

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Specimen Procurement Technician to join our team at Parrish Medical Center. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and processing incoming laboratory specimens and requisitions, ensuring the proper distribution of specimens, and providing excellent customer service to our clients.

• Screen and monitor laboratory specimens and requisitions to ensure compliance with established laboratory policies.
• Enter requisitions, receive specimens, and enter other pertinent information into the Laboratory Information System.
• Perform duties associated with referred testing, including requisitioning, preparation for shipping, and result entry.
• Provide diagnostic laboratory procedures based on established standards, demonstrating competency in all procedures within scope of practice.
• Communicate with clients and physicians' offices regarding information inquiries for orders, procedures, and collections.
• Check requisitions for accuracy and monitor calls and faxes in the evening hours.
• Monitor clients' pickup schedule and pneumatic tube system, delivering specimens to the appropriate section.
• Order and maintain inventory/supplies for reference laboratory clients and specimen procurement section.
• Assist other areas in the laboratory as needed.

• Vocational or technical school certification, training, or apprenticeship required beyond high school.
• BLS through AHA required.
• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
