Key Responsibilities- Install and maintain high-quality connectivity by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in our Headend, HFC, and fiber optic networks, as well as Home Terminal Units.
- Support our customers by repairing local plant performance issues and customer-owned equipment using electronic test equipment.
- Read and interpret system/network design maps, verify as-built documentation, and report findings following Company standard process.
- Splice and/or terminate coaxial and fiber optics cables, mount active and passive devices, and activate devices to ensure optimal performance of all equipment in the HFC/fiber optic plant.
- Perform surveys to determine if customer-requested locations are capable of receiving service, create maps/drawings as necessary, and estimate costs for plant/drop extensions.
- Perform underground facility locates accurately using plant maps and electronic locating equipment to prevent cable damage and service interruptions.
- Perform construction maintenance duties as necessary, including splicing aerial/underground coaxial and/or fiber optic cables and equipment to restore cable plant to system specification.
- Continuously monitor plant for ingress/egress and perform signal leakage ride-out activities and track and repair signal leakage as necessary.
- Train system technical personnel as directed by local system management.
- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), and other related test equipment.
- Knowledgeable of rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system, including FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT, as well as all local ordinances.
- Must possess a valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed.
- The position requires the ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work, or when on-call.
