Position Overview

Guardian Life Insurance is in search of a seasoned Portfolio Enablement Leader to spearhead significant strategic projects within our Group Benefits division. This role entails overseeing progress and business accountability, providing insights and decisions on all facets of business case formulation, establishing financial and operational success indicators at both portfolio and initiative levels, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective execution and change management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the effective management of the strategic investment portfolio for Group Benefits.
  • Assist leadership in guiding business investments across various product and sales areas.
  • Establish robust portfolio and program management methodologies to achieve business objectives and key results.
  • Identify and promote best practices while supporting business teams in capability enhancement and maturity.
  • Prepare and present portfolio executive briefing materials, including regular business reviews and portfolio meetings.
  • Demonstrate autonomy in organizing work to ensure high-quality, consistent outcomes.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders and business partners.
  • Balance business requirements with technical limitations, offering innovative solutions to negotiate necessary trade-offs.
  • Guide business and IT leaders in aligning and defining business case scopes, identifying critical success factors, and addressing significant issues and risks.
  • Implement and mentor others in industry-leading practices for charter development, communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, and portfolio metrics management.
  • Proactively eliminate obstacles and mitigate risks to maximize team productivity and ensure timely delivery.
  • Communicate innovations in people, processes, and technology across various business and leadership teams.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the organization, holding them accountable for timelines and deliverables.
  • Utilize business expertise to drive impactful results.
  • Encourage the exchange of unique insights and experiences among team members.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 3 years in the insurance sector.
  • 3+ years of experience in portfolio management, management consulting, product development, or operations.
  • Proven track record of leading at least three division-level, cross-functional strategic investment initiatives.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.
  • Self-motivated, strategic thinker capable of leading independent discussions with stakeholders.
  • Proficient in driving portfolio-aligned business outcomes across business and technology domains.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and consensus-building skills, complemented by active listening abilities.
  • Adaptable communication style suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in transforming conceptual strategies into actionable investment proposals and managing complex programs.
  • Comfortable with data analysis and presenting findings effectively.
  • Highly organized and dynamic with an entrepreneurial approach.
  • Ability to articulate a compelling vision of project benefits and value to stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen with a comprehensive understanding of various business processes.
  • Skilled in engaging with both technical and non-technical personnel to discuss comprehensive portfolio performance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in management consulting (tier 2 or higher).
  • Finance background within a CFO office or financial planning and analysis.
  • Expertise in content creation and presentation for senior leadership.
  • Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in product management is advantageous.
  • Experience in group insurance is a plus.
