Position Overview

Under the guidance of the EMS Program Coordinator, the Emergency Medical Services Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the preparation and delivery of both theoretical and practical education aligned with national standards and state regulations. This role is dedicated to ensuring high-quality instruction and fostering student achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge at the certification level recognized by the state.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance the educational experience when applicable.
  • Implement suitable teaching methodologies to convey subject matter to learners.
  • Prepare instructional materials by reviewing topics provided by the lead instructor, integrating state curriculum objectives into lesson plans.
  • Facilitate engaging discussions during laboratory and practical training sessions.
  • Assess student performance in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to the diverse needs of students.
  • Gather feedback from students through evaluation processes.
  • Communicate student progress to lead instructors and the program coordinator.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and fellow instructors to review and refine program policies and procedures as necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid EMS Certification from the Ohio Department of Public Safety (Paramedic, EMT, or Advanced EMT).
  • Current Fire and Emergency Service Instructor II Certification or at least an Assistant EMS Instructor level.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fire and Emergency Services Instructor II Certification from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
  • National Registry Certification.
  • Experience in teaching at a post-secondary institution.
  • Associate degree or higher in a relevant field.

Possessing the ability to develop and utilize multimedia educational tools is essential. The candidate should also be capable of mentoring and guiding students towards achieving their academic and professional goals.
