Position Overview

As the largest national park in the contiguous United States, Death Valley encompasses 3.4 million acres of unique landscapes. It holds the distinction of being the lowest, hottest, and driest national park in the nation. The Furnace Creek Headquarters serves as the primary visitor center and administrative offices, located a considerable distance from the nearest grocery store and medical facilities.

Death Valley experiences mild winters, while summers are characterized by extreme heat, with temperatures often exceeding 100 degrees from April through October. The park has recorded global high temperatures, making it a notable location for climate extremes.

Government housing may be available for employees near the headquarters or within a reasonable distance from the park. Housing assignments are determined through a bidding process, considering various job-related and personal factors. Options range from studio apartments to multi-bedroom homes, fostering a vibrant community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, and delivers a diverse range of interpretive programs and experiences tailored to various audiences.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for visitors, addressing inquiries and feedback received through multiple channels, and assessing needs to provide appropriate service levels.
  • Oversees daily operations of visitor centers or similar facilities, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Utilizes technology and office equipment to manage visitor services and enhance communication across the park.
  • Leads and mentors temporary staff, coordinating daily tasks and fostering high standards in visitor services and resource interpretation.

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Appointment is subject to a background investigation.

  • Valid driver's license is required for operating government vehicles.
