About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Research Engineer to join our team at Thomson Reuters Labs. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering innovative AI and ML solutions that drive transformation in our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and partner with engineers to develop and improve methodology and evolve the technology stack
  • Apply modern software development practices to build, test, and deliver high-quality solutions
  • Create large-scale data processing pipelines to help researchers build and train novel machine learning algorithms
  • Develop high-performing, scalable systems in the context of large online delivery environments
  • Work in a collaborative team-oriented environment, sharing information and partnering with cross-functional and remote teams
  • Deliver timely solutions with a strong sense of urgency and a desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Contribute innovative ideas, create solutions, and be accountable for end-to-end deliveries
  • Effectively articulate ideas and collaborate on technical developments with cross-functional partners and team members
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience
  • At least 3 years of experience working on a Machine Learning-related product or solution
  • Experience leading technical workstreams within a software engineering organization
  • Deep understanding of Python software development stacks and ecosystems
  • Ability to understand, apply, integrate, and deploy Machine Learning capabilities and techniques into other systems
  • Familiarity with the Python data science stack, including libraries such as Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Dask, spaCy, NLTK, and scikit-learn
  • Proficiency in automation, system monitoring, and cloud-native applications, with familiarity in AWS or Azure (or a related cloud platform)
  • Desire to learn and embrace new and emerging technology
  • Familiarity with probabilistic models and understanding of the mathematical concepts underlying machine learning methods
  • Experience leading and/or mentoring teams, providing guidance around roadblocks, and providing updates to internal stakeholders
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience integrating Machine Learning solutions into production-grade software with a sound understanding of ModelOps and MLOps principles
  • Familiarity with Natural Language Processing (NLP) problems and key tasks such as Named Entity Recognition (NER), Information Extraction, and Information Retrieval
  • Hands-on experience in other programming and scripting languages (Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, etc.)
