Job Title: Sensor Research Manager

Ecolab is seeking a highly skilled Sensor Research Manager to join our Equipment and Connected Solutions (ECS) team. As part of the Research, Development and Engineering (RD&E) group, this position will support all business units of Ecolab, a globally diversified technology / service company, creating a dynamic, challenging, and varied work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project owners, program managers and business development teams to define requirements for new product offerings.
  • Identify novel sensing solutions to address business needs that implement new technology or adapt off-the shelf sensors to meet required product cost and performance targets.
  • Work closely with engineering, software, and data science teams located in Naperville IL, Eagan MN, and other global locations to ensure appropriate resourcing for projects.
  • Develop and manage a team of talented scientists and engineers to support strategic RD&E needs.
  • Coordinate and communicate issues, concerns, and progress on projects and technical developments to assure consistent alignment between stakeholders and senior RD&E management.
  • Lead technical road map planning and strategy development of sensor technologies in alignment with business unit strategies and needs.
  • Develop sensor platforms that can be leveraged across multiple divisions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, optical, physics, or materials engineering or a related technical field and 8 years of experience, MS and 5 years of experience, or PhD 3 years of experience.
  • 5 years of experience actively developing embedded or discrete sensing technologies leading to commercialized products.
  • 3 years of experience direct management of technical resources.
  • Experience analyzing and working with incomplete information to advance technical solutions and projects.
  • Experience collaborating and communicating with a wide range of functions and levels within the organization.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Masters / PhD degree in a relevant technical field.
  • 8 years of experience leading technical functions and activities.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping of embedded sensing concepts using development tools such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive initiatives, negotiate approaches and deliverables, and achieve agreed to outcomes.
  • Breadth of experience with sensing technologies including optical, magnetic, acoustic, electrochemical, etc.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build talent, teams, and organizations that support and deliver strategic initiatives.
  • Program management experience or certification.
