The Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Protein Scientist to join our dynamic Protein Sciences team. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in protein purification and play a key role in designing and generating biomolecules that underlie our CRISPR gene editing technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exercise high-level technical discretion on protein production projects, including conception, material generation, purification, and delivery of high-quality protein.
  • Develop, optimize, scale-up, and troubleshoot protein production workflows.
  • Implement new technologies to optimize current workflows and expand platform capabilities.
  • Manage biophysical characterization of protein materials.
  • Bring expertise in developing biologics.
  • Coordinate and communicate progress across project teams.
  • Analysis and interpretation of experimental results and assisting in the preparation of scientific reports and presentations, in addition to maintaining a detailed scientific notebook.
Qualifications:
  • PhD with at least 3 years of industry experience OR Bachelor's/Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or other related scientific discipline with 10+ years of industry experience.
  • Strong expertise in protein purification methodologies (affinity chromatography, ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction, and size-exclusion) including extensive experience in designing and troubleshooting protein purification schemes.
  • Operation and maintenance of AKTA and/or BioRad NGC system.
  • Deep expertise in bacterial expression – including expression optimization and process development from small scale purification to large scale protein production.
  • Previous experience managing bioreactors or fermenters is desirable.
  • Familiarity with mammalian or cell-free expression technology is a plus.
  • Experience in molecular biology including gene design, vector construction, and DNA sequence analysis is required, preference for scar-less methods (Gibson, Golden Gate, recombineering).
  • Candidate will ideally be comfortable using structural software (Pymol, Chimera) to guide protein design.
  • Mastery of standard protein quality assessment techniques (SDS-PAGE, MALS, DLS, ELISA, BLI, enzyme-linked functional assays...).
  • Special consideration for candidates with demonstrable experience in the preclinical development of biologics.
  • Attention to detail with rigorous scientific thinking and clear communication supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Creative mindset to tackle difficult problems and propose solutions, as well as prioritize tasks across multiple projects.
  • Strong team player with a desire to contribute to innovative technologies and drive success in an early-stage company.
