Job Description

Job Title: Project Engineer

Reports to: Program Director, Mission Systems

Location: Tustin, CA

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to lead a cross-discipline aerospace engineering team responsible for mission-critical scope in the development and integration of mission systems for our Delta Spaceship. The successful candidate will have a strong background in aerospace engineering, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a cross-functional engineering team to complete the associated scope within the program
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
  • Support the development of engineering plans to meet program requirements
  • Identify and develop risk mitigation plans to meet program objectives
  • Validate schedule and staffing estimates for engineering activities
  • Support the program manager in assigning and prioritizing responsibilities for engineering tasks
  • Update and communicate status effectively with the program team and leadership

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 6+ years of engineering experience, with a majority on related systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and empower a team of subject matter experts in varying technical disciplines
  • Experience as the leader of a technical team through the design and delivery process
  • Understanding of aircraft or transportation system design and engineering processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Team player with excellent collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with life safety design/requirements
  • Experience with prototype, development, experimental, and/or innovative products
  • Hands-on experience with equipment assembly, fabrication, installation, and test
  • Proactive/self-sufficient/able to work and add value with minimal oversight
  • Willingness to learn new things and continually improve capabilities/skills
  • Positive and optimistic influence on team, department, and community
  • Comfortable working in a creative/chaotic environment
  • Desire and ability to mentor others
  • Desire to question the status quo

Benefits:

Virgin Galactic offers a competitive salary range of $105,700.00–$161,000.00 per year, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience. Other forms of pay, such as bonus or long-term incentive, may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
