About this Role

As a Journeyman with Carrier, you will play a critical role in ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of our customers. Your expertise in Commercial HVAC will be essential in working on a variety of installations, repairs, and maintenance projects. You will have the opportunity to work independently and as part of a team, highlighting your ability to collaborate and make on-the-job decisions. Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation

• Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions

• Install, replace, or repair damaged equipment; calibrate thermostatic controls

• Install new heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems; repair and replace damaged or worn heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repair or replace low- and high-pressure liquid lines.

• Inspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of unit and make necessary adjustment; inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumps

• Maintain the chilled and hot water supply systems

• Adjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems; cleans coils, blowers, checks motors, and belt tensions

• Assemble and install metal ductwork

• Assist in planning and designing of new installations of heating and air-conditioning systems

• Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations

• Performs additional duties and responsibilities as required

• Recognize and identify potential risks and hazards associated with performing all work-related duties safely

• Work to mitigate potential risks associated with essential duties

• Collaborate with management personnel to maintain safe working environments

• Participate in a comprehensive OSHA-approved safety course (preferably OSHA 10- or 30-hour course) and adhere to company and regulatory compliance programs

• Obtain or carry low voltage electrical card

• Obtain or carry EPA refrigerant license

• Wear appropriate company issued uniform

• Obtain or carry any needed mechanical licenses for city or state work performed

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED

• 2+ years of experience installing, updating, operating, maintaining, repairing, and removing of HVAC equipment

• Push/pull/lift up to 50lbs or more

• Must be able to stand, crawl, sit, squat of extended period of times

• Maybe required to pass a satisfactory examination as to skills and ability as a Building Trades

• Possess and maintain valid and current Driver's License and be insurable by the company's insurance carrier.

• Must be currently within a Union or willing to join a Union

Preferred Qualifications:

• Principles and practices of Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning (HVAC) maintenance and repair; hazard and safety practices common to the trade

• HVAC controls and safety devices; appropriate Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) / chemical usages; tools of the trade; materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems

• Computerized electrical circuits and systems as they relate to air-conditioning, heating, ventilating, and refrigerated cooling

• Sheet metal, electrical, plumbing

• Basic understanding of building automation controls
