Position Overview

The Brunswick Job Corps Center is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor who is passionate about assisting young individuals in overcoming their challenges and building a brighter future. As a key member of our student support team, you will play a vital role in fostering recovery and positive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Counseling: Conduct personalized counseling sessions to evaluate and address the specific needs of students dealing with substance abuse issues. Create tailored treatment plans that facilitate recovery and personal growth.
  • Group Therapy: Lead therapeutic group sessions to cultivate a supportive community for students enrolled in the program. Ensure a safe environment for open discussions, sharing experiences, and mutual encouragement.
  • Educational Workshops: Design and execute workshops focused on substance abuse prevention, relapse avoidance, and essential life skills. Equip students with the knowledge and tools necessary for informed decision-making and healthy living.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate assistance and intervention during crisis situations. Collaborate with the broader support team to ensure a comprehensive response for students in distress.
  • Collaboration with External Resources: Partner with external substance abuse treatment providers, mental health professionals, and community resources to ensure ongoing support for students transitioning out of the program.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain precise and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and treatment plans. Prepare reports as necessary and engage in case conferences to review student progress.

Qualifications:

  • Valid, active, unrestricted in-state License or Certification in Substance Abuse Counseling/Prevention required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in drug/alcohol counseling or a related field is required.
