Overview:

The Early Childhood Educator plays a vital role within the educational team, tasked with the nurturing and instruction of a designated group of young learners. Responsibilities include designing and executing the educational program, overseeing the children, engaging with families, and ensuring a secure and healthful atmosphere for all children.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Duties:
To provide care for children in the Childcare Center.

To create and uphold a safe and healthy educational setting.

  • Organizes the classroom layout to support the objectives of the learning environment, ensuring it is clean, safe, and stimulating, tailored to each child's developmental stage.
  • Meets and adheres to licensing standards for child-to-staff ratios.
  • Maintains a safe and organized learning space by displaying necessary information as required.
  • Ensures the safety, hygiene, and overall well-being of children in the assigned group.
  • Follows state regulations for cleaning and sanitizing toys and surfaces.
  • Implements proper hygiene practices, including hand washing and diaper changing.
To foster physical and cognitive growth

  • Delivers a comprehensive curriculum that caters to the individual needs of children, balancing child-led and educator-directed activities.
  • Engages children in the planning and execution of learning experiences.
  • Designs and implements activities that promote language and literacy skills, as well as foundational concepts in math, art, music, and science.
To encourage social and emotional growth while providing constructive guidance.

  • Creates and implements interactive activities that build self-esteem and social competencies.
  • Plans and executes culturally inclusive and gender-neutral experiences.
  • Utilizes and advocates for positive guidance strategies.
  • Offers a diverse range of creative and expressive activities.
  • Manages the classroom environment through positive reinforcement, problem-solving, establishing appropriate boundaries, and active listening.
  • Establishes routines that facilitate smooth transitions.
  • Communicates with children at their developmental level, promoting independence.
To cultivate positive and effective relationships with families

  • Takes into account the unique family and child dynamics concerning their cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Shares assessment information with parents and provides support for navigating different developmental stages.
  • Encourages open communication with parents through regular updates and scheduled conferences.
  • Invites parental involvement in the program by offering various volunteering opportunities.
To ensure a well-organized, purposeful program that meets participant needs

  • Keeps accurate daily attendance records; posts daily schedules in the classroom; prepares weekly lesson plans; and documents individual progress through anecdotal notes and developmental assessments.
  • Evaluates necessary supplies and materials prior to activity implementation.
  • Coordinates and supervises assistants and volunteers within the classroom.
  • Continuously assesses children's needs and developmental progress, using assessment results to inform activity planning.

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding staff, families, and children.
  • Commits to ongoing training to meet state requirements.
  • Engages in continuous professional development to enhance personal and professional skills.
  • Supports the growth and development of colleagues by sharing resources and providing constructive feedback.
  • Participates in staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions offered by the Childcare Center and Mozaic Senior Living.
  • Prepares for and attends Open House events.
  • Demonstrates reliability, flexibility, and adherence to schedules.
  • Shows a willingness to grow and be receptive to new ideas and constructive feedback.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of the MSL Employee Handbook, state regulations for childcare centers, and relevant policies and procedures.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

Must possess a CDA, be actively pursuing a CDA within one year of hire, or continue educational development through workshops and training.

As of June 2008, must hold an associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field, including at least 12 semester hours in child development or early childhood education.


Required Certifications:
Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification.

Experience: 1-2 years in early childhood education or a closely related field.

Licensure:
A valid work permit, with necessary documentation as specified on an I-9 form.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


Must exhibit a warm and friendly demeanor, be attuned to the feelings and needs of others, and relate well to children.

Must be capable of recognizing signs of child abuse and neglect; possess professional-level knowledge of educational theory, child development, and teaching methodologies; be adaptable to changes in assignments; be open to supervision for performance improvement; and provide exceptional customer service while fulfilling other duties as required.

Must have experience in developing lesson plans and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines. Must possess effective reading and communication skills.
