Carolina Youth Development Center is seeking a Part-Time Academic Enrichment Coordinator and Tutor to enhance our Residential Program. As a leading non-profit organization in South Carolina, our mission is to foster the growth of children and families.
This position is part-time, with expected hours from Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Every other week, the role will require four hours of work on Saturday to support our enrichment activities.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:The Part-Time Academic Enrichment Coordinator and Tutor will play a crucial role in the Residential Services Program by providing academic guidance, tutoring, and transitional activities. This includes youth-focused programming designed to improve educational outcomes, independent skills, and life experiences. The programs encompass the Teen Afterschool (TASC) Program, CDF Freedom School, and various year-round educational and enrichment initiatives. The role will ensure a safe, nurturing, and effective learning environment for all participating youth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in creating a diverse calendar of educational and skill-building activities that promote life skills and prepare youth for college and careers.
- Oversee the daily implementation of enrichment and educational programming, including agenda preparation, interdepartmental coordination, and event scheduling.
- Support the academic goals of program participants through individualized tutoring, group instruction, educational assessments, and lesson planning.
- Facilitate educational support by collaborating with schools, attending relevant meetings, developing individualized educational plans, and monitoring academic performance.
- Supervise and guide program participants using trauma-informed approaches, including the Teaching Family Model.
- Maintain accurate program data trackers related to activities, skill development, and educational progress to evaluate program effectiveness and fulfill reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to build warm, trusting relationships with families.
- Maintain supportive relationships with clients while encouraging independent growth.
- Experience in effective behavior management or extensive background in childcare.
- Understanding of basic parenting skills and family dynamics.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for youth and families.
- Strong organizational and writing skills for accurate record-keeping.
- Team-oriented mindset to collaborate effectively towards program and agency goals.
Knowledge and Skills Required: Must possess the necessary knowledge and skills to work with diverse populations, including high-risk youth and families. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with other professionals are essential, along with proficiency in developing comprehensive behavioral interventions and excellent group facilitation skills.
Education and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree in Education along with teaching certification and a minimum of one year of relevant experience is required.
