Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses significant financial, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities, assisting senior financial leaders such as the Chief Accountant, Controller, or Treasurer. Key duties include:

  • Executing professional accounting tasks, including general ledger reconciliation, financial reporting, audit preparation, grant reporting, and payroll management.
  • Reviewing work through regular conferences, analysis of reports, achievement of objectives, and periodic audits.
  • Performing various administrative functions and accounting tasks in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established protocols.
  • Preparing and reviewing financial reports for upper management and relevant departments.
  • Conducting monthly account reconciliations to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Preparing journal entries and account adjustments to maintain accuracy and completeness.
  • Compiling complex financial statements and supporting documentation for the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Researching and resolving financial discrepancies and inquiries.
  • Ensuring timely payment of payroll taxes.
  • Participating in the development and monitoring of citywide budgets and expenditures.
  • Contributing to the management of new financial systems and collaborating with IT for implementation.
  • Analyzing current organizational systems to recommend improvements for efficient fiscal management.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field, along with three to five years of professional accounting or fiscal management experience, including two years in governmental accounting or auditing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in local government accounting or fiscal management is highly desirable.

Special Requirements:
Essential Employees may be required to work during emergencies as determined by the Department Head.

Physical Standards:
This position is primarily sedentary, requiring employees to sit for extended periods, with occasional walking or standing.
