Position Summary:

Senior Electrical Engineer – Water/Wastewater Treatment

Role Description:

Parsons Oman is in search of a Senior Electrical Engineer with expertise in medium and low voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, and facility systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a range of engineering tasks, applying established engineering principles and practices. This role requires proficiency in engineering theories and adherence to company standards. Typical assignments will involve significant engineering calculations, specification creation, report writing, and the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling), CAE (Computer Aided Engineering), and CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools. The role includes both the design of new facilities and the rehabilitation of existing structures. Flexibility for remote or hybrid work arrangements is available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must possess a valid Electrical Engineer license in the State of California.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the wastewater treatment sector and related design processes.
  • Familiarity with construction practices in the wastewater treatment domain.
  • Expertise in designing substations, main power distribution, and motor control centers, including layout and sizing of transformers, automatic transfer switches, bus systems, and breakers.
  • Experience in control systems design, including ladder diagrams and wiring specifications.
  • Ability to conduct short circuit calculations and protective device coordination studies using ETAP software.
  • Conduct independent field investigations to gather data supporting design efforts.
  • Write comprehensive specifications and anticipate potential design challenges.
  • Respond to contractor inquiries during construction, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Understanding of safety regulations, including Cal OSHA standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in power distribution and lighting.
  • PE registration in California is mandatory or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire.
  • Solid experience with Revit, ETAP, and familiarity with NEC Codes is essential.
  • Experience in municipal wastewater or industrial water treatment systems is crucial.
  • Experience in designing and specifying various electrical systems is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and lead a team of designers and engineers.
  • Additional experience in communications systems, fire alarms, and building management systems is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of AC and DC electrical power distribution design principles, specification development, and report writing is required. Proficiency in standard office software is expected. Effective communication with management, clients, and stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with REVIT, AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, and lighting design software is beneficial.
