Job Title: Educational Specialist II

Join the Baltimore City Public School System as an Educational Specialist II, a key role in supporting secondary literacy efforts within the Office of English Language Arts and Literacy. This position will play a crucial part in advancing teaching and learning in the district.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for Literacy in grades 9-12.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing professional learning aligned to adult learning theory connected to best practices in secondary literacy for grades 9-12 for all learners.
  • Support curriculum implementation and data analysis to promote continuous improvement.
  • Consider the needs of diverse learners in the development of professional learning and resources.
  • Develop and provide appropriate guidance for schools and school leaders on best literacy practices.
  • Work collaboratively with a highly motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
  • Remain current on research and best practices in secondary literacy content and pedagogy.
Requirements:
  • A Master's Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional certificate.
  • Three years of teaching experience in secondary literacy, grades 9-12.
  • Three years of experience developing and delivering professional development to teachers in urban school settings.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects and providing timely reporting.
  • Knowledge of current research in secondary literacy best practices.
  • Knowledge of Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for Literacy.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a productive team of individuals.
  • A commitment to educational equity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in using multiple computer applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, PD Tracking and reporting software, databases, and Online Professional Learning software.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
