Key Responsibilities

This role involves the operation of various heavy machinery, including but not limited to dump trucks, water trucks, tractor-trailers, loaders, excavators, motor-graders, and bulldozers.

The operator is expected to handle equipment in a safe manner, adhering to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities include transportation and earthwork activities such as hauling, grading, compacting, loading, unloading, excavating, backfilling, and distributing soils and materials.

The operator will maintain daily logs and other necessary documentation to track equipment usage and labor costs associated with tasks performed.

Collaboration with team members on all project-related activities is essential.

Requirements for Employment

Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals.
Suitability for federal employment will be determined through a background investigation.
A resume and supporting documents must be submitted as part of the application process.
Eligibility documents for veterans' consideration must also be provided.
A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement is required at the time of application and is a condition of employment. Failure to maintain this license will result in termination.
A successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician is required to certify the ability to perform the duties of this position. If a comparable agency-approved examination was conducted within the last 12 months, a new physical may not be necessary. The agency will reimburse the cost of the exam.
Candidates must also undergo a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment, and this position is subject to random drug testing.
The wearing of the issued uniform while on duty is mandatory.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate adequate experience and training to fulfill the responsibilities of this position with minimal supervision. Qualifications will be assessed based on the information provided in the resume and responses to assessment questions. Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are evaluated based on job elements. Candidates must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and achieve an average of at least 2 points across all job elements to be considered qualified.

Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer activities through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, social). Volunteer work is valuable for developing critical competencies, knowledge, and skills that translate directly to paid employment. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited.

Selective Placement Factor: A current, valid Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement is required; candidates must upload their license (both sides) with the application to avoid being rated ineligible.

All requirements, including any selective placement factors, must be met by the specified deadline.

Education

This position does not permit the substitution of education for experience.
