Position Overview

This role is essential for the operation of various heavy machinery and equipment within the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Operating heavy machinery including dump trucks, water trucks, loaders, excavators, and motor-graders.
  • Ensuring safe operation of equipment in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Performing essential transportation and earthwork tasks such as hauling, grading, compacting, and excavating.
  • Maintaining daily logs and reports to track equipment usage and labor costs.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members on all project-related tasks.

Employment Conditions

Candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • Must pass a background investigation to ensure suitability for federal employment.
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement at the time of application.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must undergo a urinalysis for illegal drug screening prior to appointment.
  • Must wear the designated uniform while on duty.

Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate sufficient experience and training to perform the duties of this position with minimal supervision.

Experience Requirements

Minimum qualifications will be assessed based on job elements, requiring at least 2 points on the screen-out elements and an average of 2 points across all job elements.

Additional Information

Experience may include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles that contribute to the development of relevant skills.

Selective Placement Factor

A current, valid Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement is mandatory for this position.

Education

This position does not permit the substitution of education for experience.
