Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Order Fulfillment Manager, the Logistics Support Specialist will play a crucial role in the operational and administrative aspects of food distribution. This position involves responsibilities such as order preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting in the management of information related to food and non-food item distribution. All tasks must adhere to safety and food handling regulations, and additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the mission of Feeding San Diego.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately pull daily orders according to specified pick lists and organize completed orders for dispatch.
  • Safely load trucks using pallet jacks or forklifts, following established Distribution Center Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support volunteer staff by ensuring the volunteer area is stocked with necessary products.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections in accordance with checklists.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records, including temperature logs and donation receipts, in compliance with organizational requirements.
  • Lift and handle items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Prepare bags of produce for distribution based on daily needs and SOPs.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to community partners, member agencies, and volunteers.
  • Communicate effectively with the Order Fulfillment team and other Distribution Center personnel regarding inventory discrepancies.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks as per assigned schedules and SOPs, utilizing cleaning equipment as necessary.
  • Contribute to maintaining a food-safe environment by adhering to cleaning standards.
  • Complete other tasks as directed by the Order Fulfillment Manager.

Collaboration
This role requires close interaction with all Distribution Center staff, volunteers, agency representatives, and community members.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Consideration for this position will be based on a combination of education and relevant work experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in a Distribution Center environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in a Distribution Center setting, including shipping/receiving and material handling.
  • Food handler's safety certification.
  • Experience operating a forklift.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.

Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of food storage processes and record-keeping systems.
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and forklifts safely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Capability to organize tasks for others and learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment within established guidelines.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, volunteers, and partners.
  • Awareness of safety hazards and the ability to mitigate them.

Tools and Equipment
Electric pallet jack, forklift, manual pallet jack, dolly, computer, multi-line phone, copier, printer.

Licenses and Certifications
Reliable transportation is required. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain electric pallet jack and forklift certifications (training will be provided).

Physical and Environmental Requirements
This position involves working in a warehouse environment, which may include exposure to dust and temperature variations. The employee will need to sit or stand for extended periods, walk, bend, kneel, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
