Health Services/Healthcare Support Specialist (LPN/RN) 1:1 with Student

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is dedicated to addressing the medical needs of students through the execution of healthcare tasks as prescribed by a physician and coordinated by the ESA School Nurse. The position entails maintaining comprehensive health records for all students, with potential responsibilities that may include accompanying the student during transportation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee and address specific medical and health care requirements of students with unique health challenges, fostering their independence.
  • Administer medications and medical interventions as per physician directives.
  • Provide first aid in accordance with established guidelines from Federal Way Public Schools and relevant health authorities.
  • Maintain accurate health records following the protocols set by the ESA School Nurse and Federal Way Public Schools.
  • Assist in health screenings and maintain logs of results.
  • Uphold confidentiality while managing medical information in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Perform additional nursing duties as assigned, in alignment with the Nurse Practice Act and relevant regulations.
  • Contribute as a member of the school health team within the District.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Completion of an educational program that meets Washington State Registered Nurse licensure requirements.
Possession of a valid Washington State RN or LPN license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Consistent attendance during scheduled hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with children who have special health care needs and with diverse populations.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Maintenance and annual renewal of Washington State RN or LPN License.
Certification in CPR/First Aid from an accredited organization.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Policies and procedures of the school board.
Protocols for neurological and seizure management.
Basic proficiency in standard computer software applications.

ABILITY TO:
Perform specialized medical procedures such as suctioning.
Administer medications and maintain accurate documentation.
Provide respiratory treatments and medication.
Execute procedures related to gastrostomy, colostomy, and catheterization.
Conduct blood glucose monitoring.
Deliver care to individuals with special needs and their caregivers in a compassionate manner.
Establish effective communication and working relationships with healthcare professionals and school staff.
Organize and execute job responsibilities independently while paying attention to detail.
Follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
Ensure safety and security in daily routines.
Foster positive relationships with staff and service providers.
Collaborate with District personnel and promote teamwork.
Uphold ethical and professional standards, including confidentiality.
Relate effectively with parents, staff, students, and the community in a diverse environment.

The employee in this role is required to consistently communicate, observe, and assist students, as well as handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Frequent activities include sitting, walking, bending, and fine motor skills. Occasional requirements may include standing, lifting, and twisting. Lifting over 50 lbs should be performed with assistance or mechanical aids.

This role primarily takes place indoors, with occasional outdoor responsibilities. The work environment may involve exposure to high noise levels and unpredictable student behavior. Protective gear may be required as directed by the district's health protocols.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This position typically operates Monday through Friday, with hours varying based on student needs.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
This position reports to the ESA School Nurse and Principal.

REPRESENTATION:
Professional-Technical Association.

LEVEL OF COMPENSATION:
Level D on the Prof-Tech Salary Schedule.
