Systems Architect for Sensing Hardware

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Architect to join our team at Apple. As a Systems Architect, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-performance systems that support computer vision, machine learning, and photography applications.

Key Responsibilities

- Collaborate with computer vision algorithm teams and system & module teams to interpret and negotiate system hardware requirements
- Propose and negotiate system architecture that can be multi-functionally supported in the timeframes vital to meet program objectives
- Perform system analysis, scoping, and resourcing & technical tradeoff evaluations
- Coordinate multi-functional work & dependencies to align with dynamic project goals
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams—including electrical, optical, mechanical, firmware, driver, and other software teams—on hardware design and processes and to enable coordinated software development
- Define and build proof-of-concept and initial prototype hardware as needed
- Coordinate and assist in bring-up, debug, production, test, calibration, and verification plans to ensure high quality results are delivered

Requirements

- Experienced, dedicated engineer with initiative and a proven track record of developing sophisticated systems from definition through the project life cycle
- Great teammate with outstanding and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Technical leader able to bridge and coordinate broadly multi-functional teams
- Ability to quickly pick up and own new concepts and to contribute with innovative solutions
- Comfort working through ambiguity
- Deep understanding of system-level impact of design choices and good judgment in negotiating tradeoffs
- Thorough guaranteed-by-design methodology for robust system design with good documentation habits
- Strong hands-on solving and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Proven record of leading sophisticated system designs and coordinating design teams including close collaboration with Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware and Software Engineering teams
- Experience integrating cameras into system electronic and mechanical architecture, with an understanding of optics/sensor/image pipeline
- Scripting skills and understanding of low level software (firmware & drivers in C or C++)
- Familiarity with training data requirements for machine learning, machine vision, computer vision, or deep learning
