Position Overview

The Certified Anesthesia Technician operates under the guidance of the Department Administrator or their delegate, adhering to the legal scope of practice and established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This role involves the cleaning, preparation for sterilization, assembly, storage, and maintenance of equipment and supplies within the Anesthesia Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Quality Control: Conduct daily maintenance and quality assurance checks on anesthesia machines, ensuring functionality and safety. This includes performing leak tests, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining detailed logs of cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Equipment Setup: Assemble basic anesthesia setups, ensuring the correct age-specific equipment is utilized. This includes selecting appropriate breathing circuits and IVs based on patient assessments.
  • Patient Transport Assistance: Aid in the transportation of patients to recovery areas, ensuring oxygen sources and monitoring equipment are prepared and available.
  • Direct Patient Care Support: Assist in routine and emergency situations under supervision, including the setup of arterial lines and other monitoring equipment.
  • Room Preparation: Ensure operating rooms are appropriately set up based on the procedures being performed.
  • Supply Management: Maintain adequate inventory levels of anesthesia supplies and equipment, coordinating with pharmacy and other departments to ensure all items are stocked and up to date.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with patients' families and external vendors when new products are introduced, ensuring effective communication and service.
  • Disinfection and Disposal: Follow established protocols for the removal and disposal of supplies and equipment post-procedure, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Educational Support: Participate in orientation and training sessions as requested, contributing to the ongoing education of staff and colleagues.
  • Customer Service: Promote exceptional customer service by demonstrating skills aligned with the organization's commitment to quality care.
QualificationsExperience
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs. overhead and push/pull up to 500 lbs.
  • Capability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Experience working with caustic cleaning solutions.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA is required.
Education
  • Graduation from an ASATT approved anesthesia technology program with an Associate's degree, or equivalent experience as a Certified Anesthesia Technician.
Licensure and Certification
  • Certification as an Anesthesia Technician from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
