Position Summary

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer plays a pivotal role in project management, report generation, specification development, foundation design, and geotechnical calculations, while also providing guidance and mentorship to junior geotechnical personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage geotechnical project tasks, including complex engineering analyses, report writing, field investigations, and laboratory assessments.
  • Engage proactively in loss prevention and the minimization of liability on geotechnical projects.
  • Mentor Geotechnical and Staff Engineers, fostering professional growth.
  • Assess ground conditions and their implications for design and construction.
  • Conduct designs for shallow and deep foundations, as well as slope stability analyses.
  • Perform deep foundation evaluations for various pile types.
  • Oversee geotechnical design for:
    • Shoring and bracing systems, including soldier pile lag walls, sheet pile walls, cellular coffer dams, and secant pile walls.
    • Tieback anchors and rock anchors.
    • Retaining walls, such as segmental retaining walls, cantilevered retaining walls, gabion walls, and reinforced earth walls.
  • Execute seismic studies, including site class determination, liquefaction analysis, site-specific spectral response analysis, and liquefaction-induced settlement analysis.
  • Conduct group pile analyses, soil-pile interaction studies, and lateral load and deflection behavior assessments.
  • Develop and oversee geotechnical laboratory testing programs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Master of Science or PhD in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Strong background in vertical construction and liability limitation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients and design teams during project phases.
  • Proficient in project management with a proven track record of achieving business objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of soil mechanics and extensive experience in geotechnical analysis and laboratory testing.
