AHRC New York City is a leading provider of services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Our mission is to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead full and equitable lives.

We are seeking Per-Diem Residential Habilitation Counselors (RHC) to work one-on-one with individuals in their private homes and communities across all five boroughs. The RHC provides personalized support in areas such as:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Skills Training
  • Socialization and Recreation
  • Utilization of Community Resources

The RHC position is a part-time/per-diem role with a competitive hourly rate of $18. Shifts are primarily in the afternoons, evenings, or weekend mornings/afternoons, typically 4-6 hours long.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient, understanding, and team-oriented support to individuals with I/DD in community participation, advocacy, and building meaningful relationships.
  • Teach, counsel, and assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as meal preparation, cleaning, and hygiene needs.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals supported while promoting skill development and exploring their interests and hobbies.
  • Work one-on-one or in group settings across various environments.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with the I/DD population is preferred but not required; AHRC NYC provides additional training for those starting or changing career paths.
  • Professionalism, integrity, excellent communication skills, patience, sensitivity, and commitment to working with the I/DD population.
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent, or completion of certification in HHA, CNA, PCA, or related fields.
