American Humane is seeking a skilled and compassionate Residential Animal Welfare Specialist to join our team at the Humane Sanctuary in Palm City, FL. As a key member of our team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the welfare, safety, and proper care of all animal residents at the Sanctuary.

About the Position

The Residential Animal Welfare Specialist will work closely with the Director, Sanctuary & Military Affairs Programming, and the Chief Veterinary Officer & Animal Ethicist to ensure alignment with American Humane standards for animal care. Key responsibilities include managing animal husbandry and operations, performing basic maintenance, communicating with vendors, and providing enrichment activities for a variety of animals.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health and well-being of all animal residents at the Sanctuary through daily observation, monitoring, and reporting any concerns to the veterinary team.
  • Develop and implement effective enrichment plans to stimulate the physical and mental well-being of the animals.
  • Perform routine cleaning and disinfection tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment for the animals.
Requirements

We are looking for a highly skilled and dedicated individual with a strong background in animal care and husbandry. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with an associate's or bachelor's degree in animal science or a related field preferred. Licensed Animal Care Technician or equivalent experience is strongly desired but not required.

The ideal candidate will have general knowledge of animal behavior, husbandry, and care, as well as proven experience safely implementing and carrying out care-related animal husbandry best practices. They will also possess skills such as assessing animals, administering medications, and maintaining detailed records.

A strong ability to remain calm and composed in stressful or emergency situations, effectively prioritize workload, and communicate effectively with a variety of people is essential. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook and Excel, is also required.

Compensation and Benefits

As a Residential Animal Welfare Specialist with American Humane, you can expect a competitive salary of $50,000 - $65,000 annually, depending on experience.
