Heavy Equipment Operator

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at SA Recycling. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for safely operating heavy equipment and hauling scrap metal to ensure efficient and effective processing.
Key Responsibilities- Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal, ensuring accurate inventory tracking and compliance with safety regulations.
- Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking, utilizing your knowledge of metal types and grades.
- Perform daily operation and safety inspections on equipment, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
- Communicate effectively with office staff and customers to determine commodities to load, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Work independently when driving scrap metal, utilizing your problem-solving skills to navigate challenging routes and situations.
- Collaborate with other employees in the scrap metal yard to maintain a safe working environment, adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including refueling, lubrication, and cleaning of equipment, to ensure optimal performance and extend equipment lifespan.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to company housekeeping standards and promoting a safe working environment.
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a scrap metal recycling environment.
- Ability to pass a medical physical and drug test, as well as a background check.
- Preferred: high school diploma or GED, and/or foreign education acceptable.
- Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus, with ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong focus on safety and customer satisfaction.
This role requires working in a scrap metal recycling and shredder yard environment, with exposure to heavy equipment, loud noises, and varying weather conditions. The physical demands of this role include lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
