Position Overview
As a Research Chemist 2, you will engage in the investigation of organic and inorganic materials, conducting thorough analyses to ascertain their properties and characteristics. Your expertise will contribute to the advancement of both new and existing products through rigorous research methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research on various substances, analyzing their chemical and physical properties.
- Specialize in one or more areas of chemistry, including:
- Analytical Chemistry: Perform detailed qualitative and quantitative analyses to verify the identity and purity of compounds.
- Biochemistry: Explore the chemical processes and structures of living organisms.
- Geochemistry: Investigate the Earth's composition and processes.
- Inorganic Chemistry: Study the behaviors of inorganic materials and compounds.
- Nuclear Chemistry: Analyze atomic reactions and the effects of radiation.
- Radiochemistry: Develop techniques to study radionuclides and their applications.
- Organic Chemistry: Research carbon-containing compounds and their reactions.
- Physical Chemistry: Examine matter's behavior at molecular and atomic levels.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A minimum of a BS/BA with 2 years of relevant experience, or an MS/MA, or a PhD.
- A strong background in conducting independent research with a proven publication record.
- Experience in leading projects and mentoring junior staff.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Working Environment
This position involves handling hazardous materials and requires adherence to safety protocols. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and will undergo a federal background investigation.
Additional Requirements
All candidates must be prepared for pre-employment and random drug testing as part of the security clearance process.
