Job Overview

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in facilitating various accounting operations, including but not limited to Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Payroll, General Ledger management, and account reconciliations. This position is also responsible for the timely preparation of financial statements and supporting the annual budgeting and tax processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of financial records for all payable and receivable transactions, adhering to The Plaza's Accounting Policies.
  • Process and manage weekly AP invoices and payments through various methods including checks and electronic payments.
  • Conduct vendor account reconciliations to guarantee prompt payment.
  • Manage AR by updating cash receipts, transferring funds, invoicing, and reconciling monthly billing activities.
  • Oversee payroll processing and reconcile quarterly benefit reports.
  • Prepare and issue manual payroll checks as needed.
  • Assist in managing The Plaza's Credit Card Program, including expense reporting and data integration into accounting systems.
  • Prepare and submit monthly General Excise Tax (GET) reports and ensure tax payments are processed accurately.
  • Review and post monthly recurring journal entries and manage prepaid expense entries.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts regularly.
  • Periodically review general ledger accounts and census data to support financial statement preparation.
  • Compile and analyze monthly financial packets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide accounting support to community Business Office Managers and Administrators to ensure accurate billing and payment processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments and participate in community meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Comply with all employment policies as outlined in the Team Member Handbook and other procedural manuals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficient in accounting software and business applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a Staff Accountant role or a similar position.
  • At least one year of experience in processing high volumes of APs, ARs, and billing transactions.
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as PointClickCare, SAGE Intacct, and Enquire.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with office equipment including copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new skills.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires frequent sitting and standing, occasional reaching, bending, and the ability to operate a computer. Candidates must meet health standards as per company policies.

Compensation: The starting salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
