Job Overview

Terrestrial Energy is seeking a highly skilled Controls Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing the controls design for various process and nuclear systems associated with a power generation facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine simulation approach, boundary conditions, and scope for complex systems.
  • Perform steady-state and transient simulations, sensitivity analysis, and optimization studies to ensure system performance and safety.
  • Develop user-defined codes in programming languages to support simulations and improve system efficiency.
  • Perform post-processing of simulation results and prepare detailed reports for upper management.
  • Present simulation results to support decision-making and drive innovation.
  • Contribute to the conceptual and detailed design of instrumentation and control systems, including definition of system functional and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and develop I&C requirements.
  • Support the development of the overall plant design and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in controls engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, or nuclear engineering.
  • 3 to 8 years of work experience in controls simulation, design, and optimization.
  • Working knowledge of Flownex or similar analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, C++, or Python.
  • Canadian Professional Engineer Certification or eligibility to obtain.
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in instrumentation and control design for nuclear power plants.
  • Expertise in instrumentation and control system functions, configurations, and equipment used in process systems, safety systems, or safety-related systems.
  • Experience in control concept area, including algorithm development, performance, and stability analysis.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and standards applicable to control systems in the nuclear industry.
