Position Overview

This role offers flexibility for remote or on-site work.

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Credential Verification and Medical Staff, and in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, President, and President-Elect of the Medical Staff, the Medical Staff Specialist is responsible for overseeing and facilitating the daily operations of the organized medical staff within MaineHealth. This role acts as a subject matter expert in accreditation protocols, legal obligations, and best practices concerning the Medical Staff organization. Furthermore, the Specialist serves as a vital link between the Medical Staff, elected leadership, hospital administration, legal affairs, the Board, and Leadership across MaineHealth.

Utilizing extensive knowledge of the Medical Staff organization, relevant By-laws, accreditation requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations, the Medical Staff Specialist manages the credentialing and privileging processes, ensuring that all healthcare providers are adequately qualified and competent to deliver high-quality care to patients.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Education: A Bachelor's degree or a minimum of five years of equivalent professional experience in a related field.
  2. Licenses/Certifications: Not applicable.
  3. Experience: Familiarity with credentialing procedures, accreditation and regulatory standards, and state and federal laws concerning provider licensure is preferred; customer service principles typically gained through two to four years of relevant experience.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, database management, and website navigation.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing abilities; capacity to collaborate effectively with various departments, staff at all levels, and external practice entities.
  6. Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  7. Understanding of project management and office administrative functions.
