Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sonography Extern to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Sonography Extern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced sonographers and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate ultrasound equipment to perform general and/or vascular procedures/studies
  • Accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
  • Review patient medical records to obtain necessary clinical information
  • Position patients and select proper transducers and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures
  • Ensure patient safety, mental and physical comfort
  • Analyze sonograms and communicate findings to physicians
  • Maintain accurate records and enter patient and study information into the radiology information system
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Sonography
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) examination for Sonographic Principles and Instrumentation (SPI)
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) examination for Vascular Technology (VT) if performing vascular exams
Working Conditions

The Sonography Extern will work in a fast-paced clinical environment and will be required to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the workday. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. The incumbent must also be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
