Job Purpose
Provide guidance and leadership to plant operations management through the execution of environmental, health, and safety initiatives, procedures, and educational programs aimed at continuous enhancement, compliance assurance, incident reduction, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Align environmental, health, and safety directives with overall business strategy to ensure effective implementation at the plant level.
  • Formulate, execute, and oversee annual objectives and improvement strategies in collaboration with plant management.
  • Devise strategies for the rollout of new or updated policies and regulations in partnership with plant management.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of the facility, including machinery and operational systems, to ensure adherence to corporate policies and regulations, and develop corrective actions as necessary.
  • Work alongside Safety Engineers, supervisors, and production staff to perform job hazard analyses and risk assessments, implementing necessary controls.
  • Assess and manage industrial hygiene monitoring to evaluate employee exposure to airborne contaminants and physical hazards.
  • Identify training needs related to environmental, health, and safety within the plant, develop resources, and conduct training sessions for employees and management as required.
  • Organize and facilitate plant safety committee meetings.
  • Assist plant supervisors in investigating incidents, leading investigations when necessary, and collaborating with relevant staff on serious incidents.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication of incidents and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to monitor open Workers Compensation claims and work with plant supervisors to minimize lost or restricted workdays.
  • Participate in the plant Security Team, reviewing physical security measures and addressing security issues as they arise.
  • Track and analyze environmental, health, and safety metrics, communicating trends to management to enhance performance.
  • Maintain comprehensive environmental, health, and safety records to ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements, including permit documentation, incident records, and training logs.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Engineering team on environmental, health, and safety considerations in the design, introduction, installation, use, and decommissioning of manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Engage with external agencies or resources as necessary.
Above responsibilities are critical to the role. Employees must be capable of performing these essential functions satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodations. Qualifications
  • Education: A minimum of a bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety within a manufacturing environment.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Relevant certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    • In-depth knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, concepts, and best practices.
    • Familiarity with consensus standards such as NFPA and ANSI, and systems like ISO 14001, ANSI Z10, and OHSAS.
    • Experience with behavior-based safety concepts.
    • Proficient in computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Training:
  • Orientation and ongoing training as required.
