JOB SUMMARY

Marriott is seeking a dynamic Agile Project Leader to join our Software Engineering - Data Platforms team. This role is pivotal in advancing our innovative cloud-based data and analytics solutions. Ideal candidates will possess a strong enthusiasm for data and cutting-edge technologies, demonstrating a proactive approach and a robust commitment to achieving results.

In this capacity, you will oversee the delivery of data-centric projects and products, ensuring they are completed on schedule and within budget while aligning with Marriott's strategic objectives. You will be responsible for planning, assigning, directing, and coordinating activities related to data technology initiatives, either at an enterprise level or for significant systems implementation programs that involve multiple releases and work streams. Your role will include verifying that project goals are met and aligned with business targets. You will lead a team that develops and executes internal IT projects and products.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required:
  • 7+ years of experience in IT project management across various application domains and technologies.
  • 4+ years of experience in implementing enterprise data solutions and products.
  • 2+ years of experience with Scrum and Kanban methodologies.
  • 2+ years of experience leading data-driven projects.
  • Previous responsibility for managing annual project budgets exceeding $10 million.
  • Experience in tracking and forecasting project budgets.
  • Proven track record of managing both internal and external projects from inception to successful completion.
  • Ability to present to large audiences and facilitate extensive multi-day workshops.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA/Confluence).
  • Bachelor's degree, equivalent experience, or relevant certification.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree.
  • Project Management Certification, Certified ScrumMaster, Certified Product Owner, or Certified Scrum Professional with active experience in these roles.
  • Experience in complex and fast-paced environments.
  • Agile Coaching experience.
  • Strong understanding of current technologies with the ability to develop and deliver projects using state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Ability to align change management strategies with project objectives.
  • Skilled in conceptualizing innovative solutions, documenting them, and presenting them to senior management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of analytical ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with others, motivate team members, and drive productivity in a team setting.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Project Leadership
  • Facilitates team activities on a project-by-project basis.
  • Identifies and allocates necessary resources for projects, escalating any gaps.
  • Acts as an escalation point for project teams to resolve challenges.
  • Maintains tools and dashboards to monitor progress towards delivery goals.
Managing Projects and Policies
  • Conducts IT project planning, including defining goals, strategies, staffing, scheduling, risk identification, contingency planning, resource allocation, and deliverables to meet business needs.
  • Serves as a liaison with business units, Technology Product teams, Shared Platforms teams, Security teams, and Infrastructure delivery teams.
  • Develops high-level business requirements and cost estimates to assess project justification.
  • Identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and necessary tasks.
  • Directs and coordinates project personnel activities to ensure projects progress on schedule and within budget.
  • Establishes standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation.
  • Reviews status reports from project personnel and adjusts schedules and plans as necessary.
  • Communicates project status and related issues to relevant team members.
  • Interacts with vendors for programs under direct oversight.
  • Manages project risks effectively.
  • Develops and monitors business cases, including total process costs.
