About the Role:

The Sign Language Educational Specialist will provide interpretation and translation services for deaf and hearing-impaired students, facilitating effective communication between students and teachers. This position requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong communication skills to support students, staff, and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide ASL interpretation and translation services for students and staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers and other school personnel.
  • Work closely with students to help them understand classroom and homework instructions.
  • Keep families informed of school events and communicate their child's progress in school.
  • Attend mandatory training, orientations, and meetings as requested by the district.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are compliant with Section 504 and ADA.
  • Participate in student care conferences and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as requested by the school district.

Requirements:
  • State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable).
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement).
  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and families.
  • Proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Computer proficiency required.
