The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing civil engineering projects related to rail transit systems.

About the Job

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to work on a variety of projects, including track design, drainage design, utility relocation, pavement design, and other engineering-related functions. You will be responsible for preparing contract documents, developing specifications, and generating cost estimates associated with civil work and track design. Additionally, you will provide construction phase services on awarded contracts and assist in the development and updating of track standards and civil site work standards for MBTA Transit system projects.

Responsibilities

As a Civil Engineer at the MBTA, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing construction phase services on awarded contracts
  • Assisting in the development and updating of track standards and civil site work standards for MBTA Transit system projects
  • Providing guidance to MBTA consultants, Project Managers, and Track Supervisors with respect to design, construction, and maintenance projects related to rail transit systems
  • Preparing contract documents for both internal and external construction
  • Participating in field surveys of Transit system tracks for geometry verification and re-design
  • Performing design review work on MBTA Design and Construction contracts and writing corresponding review comments
  • Driving a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed
  • Coordinating the planning, scheduling, and execution of all testing performed for the purpose of improving the reliability of system components
  • Familiarity with the MBTA Safety Plan as well as the position's outlined responsibilities
  • Monitoring the reliability of major systems and selected components; conducting site inspections of systems and materials to verify quality and preparing required reports
  • Responding to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker, in a professional and courteous manner
  • Performing related duties and projects as assigned


Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years of experience in field layout engineering
  • Three (3) years of experience performing field layout and/or construction phase services
  • A valid driver's license
  • Effective organizational, analytical, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Working knowledge of CAD, Microsoft Office, and PDF editing applications
  • Effectively communicating with regulatory agencies, community organizations, and others on technical and sensitive matters
  • Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills
  • The ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed
  • The ability to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce


Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $44.89 - $64.13 hourly, depending on experience.
