Job Summary

The Cathodic Protection Technologist plays a critical role in safeguarding isolated sections of steel pipelines from corrosion. This position requires an experienced professional with a deep understanding of cathodic protection compliance, including service replacements and underground short replacements. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills for evaluating service history and GIS data, proficiency in SoCalGas's SAP/CPD systems, and the ability to monitor construction statuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze service history and GIS data to determine if a service qualifies under the CP10 replacement guideline.
  • Run reports and conduct research within SoCalGas' SAP/CPD systems for existing work, statuses, and more.
  • Monitor and check construction statuses to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Conduct regular inspections and monitoring of cathodic protection systems on isolated steel pipeline sections.
  • Implement and manage CP10 protocols to ensure corrosion protection is maintained across the pipeline network.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to assess the effectiveness of cathodic protection measures and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities, and system performance for regulatory compliance and internal audits.
  • Respond promptly to any identified issues or anomalies in the cathodic protection system, implementing corrective actions to mitigate corrosion risks.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field personnel involved in CP10-related activities.
Requirements
  • Former SoCalGas employee or contractor experience is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of cathodic protection systems and SoCalGas procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Materials Science, Geology/Earth Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cathodic protection or pipeline integrity management.
  • NACE certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of corrosion science and cathodic protection systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
