Position Overview:
This role emphasizes transfusion and blood bank services, acting as the technical and clinical authority in various laboratory domains.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating Quality Control (QC) and Proficiency Testing (PT), implementing corrective measures as necessary, and compiling QC and PT results for review.
  • Conducting Quality Assurance (QA) tasks, such as record assessments (patient testing, instrument upkeep, temperature monitoring), and initiating corrective actions when required.
  • Staying informed on technological advancements and accreditation standards pertinent to laboratory operations.
  • Contributing significantly to maintaining accreditation readiness, participating in surveys and inspections by regulatory bodies.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance for technical and clinical troubleshooting, ensuring reliable and actionable test outcomes.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Creating and coordinating validation and verification plans for new methodologies and equipment.
  • Designing training materials and competency assessments for new procedures and tools.
  • Training and evaluating the proficiency of colleagues.
  • Performing all duties of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist across various laboratory areas.

Compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures is essential to ensure patient confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of safety and reliability in testing.


Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree: in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.

Certification & Licensure:
California Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).

Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with a preference for transfusion and blood banking expertise.

Skills and Knowledge:

Proven technical proficiency in routine specimen collection, preparation, testing applications, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in one or more clinical specialty areas, such as Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Transfusion Service. Demonstrated subject matter expertise in specific laboratory areas, with a strong understanding of regulatory and accreditation requirements. Proficient in QC/QA, equipment troubleshooting, training, competency assessment, procedure development, and technical problem-solving.

Ability to prioritize and manage tasks effectively within designated timeframes while ensuring accuracy and reliability in all duties performed. Exhibits sound judgment and problem-solving skills relevant to assigned responsibilities.

Capable of compassionately and effectively interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds and age groups.


Work Environment:
Full-time position with variable shifts, including rotating weekends.
Employee Status: Regular, Non-Exempt, with a standard weekly commitment of 40 hours.
