Role: Youth Transportation Driver/Assistant Coach-Mentor

I. Organizational Mission

Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Inc. (PYB) is a community-driven organization focused on youth development and empowerment through the transformative power of basketball. Established in 2015, PYB aims to address critical issues faced by underserved communities by providing impactful programs and resources to uplift children, youth, and families.

II. Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Older Youth Program, the selected candidate will be responsible for the safe transportation of youth to the I Am Because We Are (IABWA) program, as well as serving as an assistant coach-mentor. The main duties include:

Transportation Duties:

  • Safely operate a van to transport youth to and from the IABWA program.
  • Ensure all passengers are securely fastened with seatbelts.
  • Maintain awareness of traffic and weather conditions to ensure safety.
  • Utilize GPS for efficient route planning and to avoid hazards.
  • Adhere to the scheduled route and timing for pickups and drop-offs.
  • Complete daily vehicle maintenance logs.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after each shift.
  • Monitor fuel usage, mileage, and passenger counts.
  • Report any incidents or emergencies that occur during transportation.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and organization.

Assistant Coach-Mentor Duties:

  • Support program leads in executing the diversion program for older youth.
  • Facilitate daily program objectives and engage participants in constructive activities.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to a group of 8-10 youth through basketball skill development.
  • Build individualized development plans for each participant.
  • Establish rapport with participants through regular check-ins.
  • Communicate effectively with team leads and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

III. Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and at least 10 years of driving experience.
  • Proficient in managing routes and operating passenger vans safely.
  • Ability to follow planned routes and schedules effectively.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working with children and families is preferred.
